My name is Tom Killin and I am supported by the Scottish Institute of Sport. I live in Edinburgh with my wife Maggie and daughter Shona. I worked in the whisky industry on leaving school, and continued to work there throughout my working life until I took early retirement in 2002 to have more time to relax in life. However:
I first became involved in wheelchair curling in 2004 on a chance meeting with an ex-fellow GB Paralympic squad member who had already taken up the sport. It wasn’t long before I was competing in club tournaments at Braehead Wheelchair Curling Club and as a consequence, representing Scotland in the 2005 World Championships, winning the Gold medal. This then led on to me being a member of the team which won the Silver medal at the 2006 Paralympic Games in Turin. It all seems a far cry from my earlier years of representing Scotland and GB in summer sports at wheelchair basketball, fencing and table tennis where I also achieved Paralympic success.
I currently play for both Braehead Wheelchair Curling Club and Duddingston Curling Club in Edinburgh.
My short term goal is to be selected to represent Scotland in the 2009 World Championships in Vancouver, Canada and my long term goal is of course to be selected for the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver.
In my spare time I concentrate on my fitness, attending the gym regularly, all of which neatly fits around my other passion – football! |
