Rosemary Lenton

I started curling after attending a seminar held by Frank Duffy and Michael McCreadie and watching the Worlds at Braehead in January 2005. Little did I realise that I would shortly be playing alongside these two very dominant figures in the world of Wheelchair Curling.

In a short space of time, and perhaps because this is a relatively new sport, I have come a long way from those early days. I joined the GB Squad in September 2005 and I have won the Scottish Championships once and the British Open twice in addition to appearing at a World Championships.

In the last two seasons I have been fortunate to have travelled abroad many times gaining valuable experience playing against some of the world’s best teams.

This is my first year of support from the Scottish Institute of Sport as a Curler. With the help of the Institute of Sport’s physio work, nutrition and strength and conditioning I have been able to keep strong, fit and most importantly healthy this year, so I can compete at my highest ability. During this time I have also benefited greatly from the squad coach Tom Pendreigh who has helped me to develop my skills even further.

My target for the forthcoming season is to gain more experience, by taking part in World Curling Tour events in Europe and Northern America & Canada and go on to be selected for the World in February 2009 in Vancouver. Ultimately my aim is to represent GB at Paralympic level in Vancouver in 2010 and gain a top Podium place.

What do I do in my spare time!! Well in the summer I also bowl and do Horse Carriage Driving, not bad for a grandmother. Oh and I almost forgot I went to Australia last year to take part in the World Wheelchair Bowls Championships and helped team Scotland to a Bronze position.

All of this helps to keep my time fully occupied and helps me to sleep well at night.
