Day Five Update From World Champs

Posted on

A tenacious performance from the Scots saw them secure two wins on the fifth day of action at the CPT World Championships in Beijing today. The performance was all the more impressive following losses in both of their previous matches.

Team Muirhead Coach Glenn Howard said: “I am proud of the girls. They had a rough day yesterday and they came out today like they meant business.

“That is the Team Muirhead I have grown to love over the years. They are still getting there, but they have turned it around and they played terrific and as I said I am very proud of them.”

Scotland beat China 8-6 and followed that with a further victory when they defeated current champions Switzerland 7-4. The two much needed wins were a gutsy response after those losses to Korea and Canada yesterday and Howard explained how he helped prepare the team.

“The advice I gave them was to take it literally shot by shot, all four of them had to put 110% into every shot played and to simplify it right down to that and we were able to do that through the entire two games.

“It was a great game this morning and then it was a battle against the Swiss team, it was brilliant. I loved the team’s patience. Eve missed an uncharacteristic peel and they stole one and had control right up until the brilliant ninth end where Anna made two of the best shots of the week. That set that end up and Eve closed it off and got her three and then we pulled it off.

“I told them in the de-brief that I really liked their patience. So easily you can start taking chances thinking you had control then relinquished it and you can do something stupid like give up a bad steal or whatever and we didn’t do that.

played it very smart tactically and it came down to a couple of great shots by Anna and Eve was able to cap it off for a three ender. It was a brilliant game.

“We know if we pull off both games tomorrow we can guarantee a play-off spot. It’s in our hands and you don’t want to be worrying for somebody else’s results to do it for you,” he added.
