Team Muirhead Return To Winning Ways at Euros

Posted on

Team Muirhead returned to winnings ways after claiming a convincing 9-3 win over Hungary in the women’s event at the European Curling Championships in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Playing in their fifth game of the round robin stages having previously accumulated two wins and two losses, the Scots secured a much needed win to climb up the standings and stay on track to reach the knock out stages of the tournament.

The Olympic bronze medallists found their momentum after scoring a three in the third end to take the lead and continued to build upon that margin securing three more points over the next two ends before Skip Eve Muirhead’s draw with her final stone of the eighth end secured two more points to finish the match.

Hosts Denmark are currently topping the standings with an unbeaten record of five wins, whilst Russia who shared the lead with the hosts heading into today’s match, lost to Norway 9-7 so are now in second place ahead of Scotland, Finland and Sweden on three wins and two losses.

Elsewhere, Scotland’s men had another tough day at their first European championship losing 9-2 to Switzerland and 8-2 to the Netherlands.
