Scotland’s Team Muirhead finished the round robin phase of the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships in St Gallen on a high note by beating Hungary 9-3 this afternoon.

The team had already qualified for the play-offs with two matches to go and play in their semi final tomorrow, but skip Eve Muirhead said it was good to finish with a win and a 7-2 win loss ratio.

“It was important for us to get back on a winning streak and our confidence is up as a result, so we just need to keep that momentum going now,” she said.

“I missed a few shots early doors, but the girls held their own and really played great and it was another clinical performance.

“At the start of the week I would have taken a 7-2 win loss ratio so I am happy with that and now it is just about making sure we are ready for playing the hosts again tomorrow,” Muirhead added.

Scotland picked up singles at the first, third and had a steal at the fourth before claiming a two at the sixth and a fourth at the eighth which was the decisive blow and it was game over at that point.

Tactical Coach Glenn Howard added: “It was a nice game to finish the round robin with, as a coach I am pleased with that performance and we are now ready for the play-offs.”

Team Muirhead will play Switzerland tomorrow at 1pm (GMT) whilst Scotland’s men will get their semi final underway against the hosts tonight at 6pm (GMT).
