Team England got their World Wheelchair B Championships campaign off to the ideal start when they won both games on the opening day of the event in Finland.

Lining up alongside 10 rival teams competing in Lohja for the last three places in the line-up at next year's World Wheelchair Curling Championships in Stevenston, England's Stewart Pimblett, George Potts, Julian Mattison, Karen Aspey and Jason Kean opened up with a 10-0 whitewash against Poland and followed that up with a 7-4 win over hosts Finland that puts them joint top of the table with Canada and the USA heading into day two.

“It was a great start to what will be a long week out here in Finland, but the results should now buoy them into the rest of the week and it is also good to get some momentum going at the start of an event like this,” said British Curling Head Paralympic Coach Sheila Swan.

"It was a good team effort and while we need to tighten up on a few things, overall having two wins from two will help as there are a number of challenging games coming up with Switzerland and USA tomorrow and the first day has certainly given us a great foundation to build upon this week."
