England selects team for World Wheelchair B Champs
by Tony Lenton, ECA Wheelchair Coach

The English Curling Association (ECA) and the English Wheelchair Curling Association (EWCA) are pleased to announce the team selected to represent England at the World Wheelchair ‘B’ Curling Championships in Kisakallio, Finland (4-11 November).

England Team:
Stewart Pimblett (Skip)
Julian Mattison
Jason Kean
George Potts
Karen Aspey
Jean Guild (non-travelling reserve)

The athletes will be accompanied by coaches Tony Lenton and Rosemary Lenton.

Coach Tony Lenton complimented the athletes on their selection, acknowledging the significant efforts that they had all put into the four three-day summer camps run at the Preston Flower Bowl, while noting that many had also spent considerable time on ice in between the camps.

“Although there is still a lot of training to get through, the intensity of the summer camps has galvanised the team and team harmony is some of the best I have seen,” he said.

“We have introduced three new members to the team, Karen Aspey, Jason Kean and George Potts whose inclusion looks towards the future.”

Tony acknowledged, with grateful thanks the significant support that English Wheelchair Curling has received from the Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre, British Curling and Sport England.

“We are also indebted to ECA president Richard Hills who has helped with the wheelchair coaching, which has been an enormous benefit, especially with Richard running additional training sessions for those in close proximity to the Flower Bowl,” he added.

The team will start their run-up to the World B’s by participating in the Flower Bowl Wheelchair Open at the beginning of September (1-3) along with five other UK based teams.
