British Curling’s wheelchair curling team headed to Sweden this weekend for the latest round of Euro Super League matches as they continue their preparations for next year’s Winter Paralympics in Beijing.

The tournament takes place in Jonkoping, extending a series of competitions which began with two previous rounds held in the National Curling Academy in Stirling with the field including this season’s World Championship silver and bronze medallists Sweden and Russia, as well as Norway and Korea over the weekend.

The British team comprises the five players who represented Scotland at those World Championships, which were also held in Beijing in October, along with England’s Stuart Pimblett, who joined British Curling’s transition squad earlier this year.

“This event is well timed, giving us an opportunity to assess our players as we close in on selection for the Paralympics,” said British Curling’s Paralympic Head Coach Sheila Swan.

“We are constantly looking at different ways of challenging our elite players, but there is no better way of doing that than pitting them against the world’s best and this event provides that opportunity.

“The two previous rounds of Euro Super League matches helped us all understand what was required ahead of the World Championships, where Scotland made it into the play-offs. Our players have continued to work extremely hard since that event and and this trip to Jonkoping should consequently give us another opportunity to measure progress.”

The British team opens its campaign against one of two teams that hosts Sweden have entered into the competition.

One game per draw will be live streamed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lq8iGAYigk
