Scotland’s Team Henderson offered notice of their intentions as they opened their World Junior B Championship campaign in Finland with a comprehensive win over the Ukraine.

Completed in just six ends, Fay Henderson, Robyn Munro, Holly Wilkie-Milne and Laura Watt ended the match by scoring a six at the sixth end to round off an 11-3 win and they were pleased with their efforts despite a slightly shaky start as they allowed their opponents to claim the hammer following the last stone draw, then conceded a two at that first end.

“That was a great start to the competition,” said skip Henderson.

“We lost a two at the first end, which wasn’t really what we were looking for, but apart from that we couldn’t have pictured a better start because from then on we just stepped it up and controlled the rest of the game.”

It was an encounter which served the additional benefit of addressing any nerves as they look to work their way into a long week of competition.

“We’ve managed to settle into the venue and the ice now as well which is really calming and we’re all just ready to play and are focused,” said Henderson.

“We played really well as a team, kept the communication going and picked the right shots. We’re confident in our calls and that paid off as we generally made most of our shots.

“We’ve got a two game day tomorrow starting with New Zealand, so it’s about keeping the momentum going after a good night’s sleep.”
