Immediately after returning from representing Scotland at senior level for the first time Katie McMillan has received confirmation that she will do so again after it was announced that she and Angus Bryce will compete in the ACE & Company World Mixed Doubles Championships (25 April – 2 May) in Geneva next month.
McMillan was part of the Team Henderson line-up that won four matches on its debut at the BKT Tires Women’s World Championship in Calgary last week.
However, before heading to that event she and Bryce teamed up at the Scottish Mixed Doubles Championships at Curl Aberdeen, where they went through the event unbeaten, which played a significant part in earning their selection for the Worlds.
“I’m very excited to be selected for my second World Championships this year,” she said.
“It will be a pretty good experience as neither of us have been to a World Mixed Doubles before.”
She will consequently look to draw upon what she learned from the Women’s Worlds in Canada last week.
“It’s been very encouraging to see how competitive the team have been this past week against the best teams in the World and it has been nice to have some arena experience before we head out to Geneva as it has been great soaking up that atmosphere in Calgary,” she said.
Bryce also heads into the event on the back of a break-through 2025/26 campaign.
“We have had a tremendous run with Team Waddell in our first season together, working our way into the top ten in the world rankings and winning the Scottish Mixed Doubles title with Katie was very much the icing on the cake,” said Bryce.
“Coming through a field which included world class players has given us a lot of confidence to take into the Worlds and we know how well Scottish teams have performed in that environment previously, so we are looking to make a real impact.”
Following the Winter Olympics, this latest selection means Scotland will have sent new teams to all three senior World Championships this season, which Dave Leith, Performance Director for British Curling welcomed.
“We are now beginning a new Olympic cycle and, while four years may seem a long time, we are already looking at how to maximise our prospects for the 2030 Games,” he said.
“We have real confidence in the systems and processes in place to develop our best players that have produced European, World and Olympic Champions in recent seasons and this exposure to competing at elite level can only be beneficial in terms of demonstrating and examining our talent pool.
“Team Henderson put in some excellent performances at the Women’s World Championships, claiming some impressive wins and suffering a string of narrow defeats against top quality opposition.
“We are now looking forward to seeing world number five ranked Team Whyte in action at the Men’s World Championships, before Katie McMillan and Angus Bryce get this Mixed Doubles opportunity.”
The ACE & Company World Mixed Doubles Championships take place from 25 April – 2 May with 20 nations taking part: Italy, Scotland, Australia, Estonia, United States, Canada, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Finland, Switzerland, Korea, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Czechia, China, France, Hungary and the Netherlands.
