Stranraer curler Robyn Munro has been selected as Flag Bearer for GB Students at the Opening Ceremony of the FISU World University Games in Torino.

The University of Strathclyde undergraduate will share the honour with biathlon’s Ethan Clarke (Leeds Beckett).

Continuing a momentous start to 2025 for her family, Munro’s selection for the prestigious role comes just days after her mother Gail – who is one of several family members who have made the trip to Italy to support her - was awarded an MBE for services to curling in the New Year’s Honours list.

“Being selected as the flag bearer for Great Britain at the World University Games is an incredible honour and a moment I will treasure forever,” said the 21-year-old.

“It came as a huge surprise and having competed at the Games previously in 2023, I truly appreciate just how special this opportunity is.

“I feel so privileged to carry the flag on behalf of my country and the sport of curling, and I hope to extend that honour not only by leading the team as flag bearer but also by striving to bring home a medal with Orrin (Carson, her mixed doubles teammate).

“I’m so excited to share this amazing experience with biathlete Ethan (Clarke) and my fellow Great Britain teammates and can’t wait for what’s to come this week.”

Munro will be in competitive action even before she carries the flag, since she and fellow Dumfries curler Carson are contesting the Mixed Doubles competition which begins two days ahead of the Opening Ceremony.
