Scotland's Team Henderson put in a rousing comeback on their last outing at the BKT Tires Women's World Championships in Calgary, only to be edged out at the final end by Norway.

Fay Henderson, Laura Watt, Lisa Davie, Hailey Duff and Katie McMillan had gone into their last round-robin match knowing that a place in the play-offs was already beyond them.

However, after falling 5-1 behind in the opening half of the match, they showed commendable spirit to level the match, scoring a four at the seventh end which tied things up at 5-5.

The Norwegians then regained the lead with a two at the next and the Scots were then forced to a single when they had final stone advantage at the ninth, leaving their opponents with the upper hand at the last of the scheduled ends and while maximum pressure was applied on their skip Torin Bjoernstad as she faced two counting Scottish stones when sending down her last delivery, she stood up to the pressure to draw to the button to secure an 8-6 win.

"We didn’t get off to the best of starts but we knew if we got stuck in together as a team and worked to the performance level that we knew we were capable of we knew that we would be able to score a couple back with hammer and it was definitely nice to get a four," said Scottish skip Henderson.

"It wasn’t the best end that we have seen Norway play and we managed to capitalise on that opportunity which was great."

Making their first appearance at a senior World Championship together, the Scottish quintet, who have won three successive national titles, will now look to take what they have learned from a week that produced some memorable wins against quality opposition and saw them compete hard throughout.

"It is definitely a different kind of environment to what we are used to, a lot more intense and a busier schedule than being on tour, but I think it is great to be able to experience it and hopefully it will serve us well long term," said Henderson.

"I think we have all very much enjoyed our week here and we definitely know that this is somewhere where we want to be for a long time and we definitely want to be as competitive as possible."

"With time I think its about being able to go back and work over the summer on what we need to and start again and hopefully keep this stage ours for Scotland for years to come.

"Obviously we have still got big goals that we want to achieve within the world field and, while working towards the next Olympics is still a long time away, it is never out of sight for us."

The 13 nations taking part are Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkiye and the USA, with the top six qualifying for the play-offs.
