SCOTS GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS AT WOMEN’S WORLDS

Scotland claimed their second win of the week at the BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship in Nova Scotia, battling back from behind in the second half of their meeting with Estonia to claim a 12-8 victory.

Rebecca Morrison, Jen Dodds, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson had endured a run of five successive losses, including a 9-3 defeat to Korea earlier in the day, but calmness in the face of adversity helped them to stay focused on the job in hand.

“It was a tough game against Estonia, lots of big ends taken and given and we had to play some big shots and played away quite well so we are really delighted to come away with the win there,” said skip Morrison.

“It would have been easy to get frustrated but we have talked about that a lot this week and that is not going to help us at all, so we just kept our cool and I think that is what actually helped us to win the game there.”

While the margin of defeat to Korea earlier in the day had looked substantial, it was a much closer match than the score line suggested and Morrison felt there had been good signs in that performance, too.

“We started off with a close game against Korea before we lost a big end and then we were on the trailing foot, but overall we didn’t play badly,” she said.

“It was just an unfortunate score line but we took a lot of positives away from that game and lots to be happy about and we brought that into this evening’s game.

“We said after the Korea match that if we kept doing what we just did then we would get that win tonight so we were feeling positive heading into the meeting with Estonia.”

Their first match on day five sees them take on Switzerland’s defending champions Team Tirinzoni whose astonishing run of 42 successive match wins, spanning the last four World Championships finally came to an end at the hands of hosts Canada while the Scots were beating Estonia.

As big a challenge as that is, they are familiar opponents for the Scots, who have met the four-time World Champions seven times in the past year and have had a series of very close encounters with them, including claiming a win over the Swiss quartet in Canada earlier this season.

“Switzerland are always going to be a tough game and they are current World Champions but there is no reason why we can’t beat them if we are playing well, so we will come out and put on a good performance and hopefully we can pull it off,” said Morrison.

The Scots second game of day five will see them take on the USA.
