SCOTS WARM-UP FOR SLAM IN SWIFT CURRENT

Four of Scotland’s leading teams have made their last trip to Canada this year to contest the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown against strong fields in Swift Current, Saskatchewan (December 10-14).

For the Scottish men, Teams Mouat, Whyte and Waddell, it is a tournament which provides the opportunity to hone preparations ahead of the last Grand Slam of Curling event of the year when Mouat’s men will defend their Hearing Life Canadian Open title across the state in Saskatoon.

And all three have made this journey looking to round off what has been a special year for each of them.

2025 has seen Team Mouat become the first in history to claim four Slams in a single season; Team Whyte win their first Slam; and Team Waddell force their way into the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time after joining their compatriots in reaching the knockout stages at the most recent Slam, the GSOC Tahoe, which took place across the North American border in Nevada last month.

Scottish teams have also featured in the finals of all three of this season’s Slams, with Whyte just missing out on a successful defence of their Masters title, before Mouat claimed back-to-back successes as they defended their Co-op Tour Challenge Title before winning that first ever Slam to be staged outside Canada.

This week’s Western Showdown meanwhile provides the latest opportunity for the current national champions to gain valuable competitive experience in the women’s event where Fay Henderson’s youthful quintet fly the Saltire in a strong field.
