Robyn Munro and Orrin Carson again took early control of their match on their way to a second convincing win at the Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championships in Edmonton, beating Australia 10-1.
As they had done on their way to beating Austria in their opener, the Scottish pair put in another strong performance in the pre-match last stone draw contest which leaves them well placed among the 29 competing in the Draw Shot Challenge table which could be important for seedings at the end of the round-robin stages.
They also followed the pattern of that previous match in scoring two at the opening end, then stealing at the next two to move into a 5-0 lead and after the Australians registered their solitary score at the fourth end, Munro and Carson re-established their superiority after the midway break, ultimately wrapping up the win with a three at the seventh end.
“A big goal for us is to get hammer and get on the board and start strong,” said Munro.
“Then in mixed doubles it’s about controlling the four foot and that’s what we’ve been looking to do every end and we’ve been able to do that really well, making a lot of shots out there and putting pressure on our opposition, which has been paying off so far.”
There has also been a clear determination to maintain standards throughout matches, regardless of the scoreline.
“We have enough experience to know that games can slip away from you so easily, so we just have to keep the focus and go through our processes and concentrate on what we can control and the results come from that,” Munro observed.
They look likelier to face a sterner test in their next match since, for all that China’s two wins so far have been as a result of defaults, with Brazil running out of time in their opener, before Austria’s Gabriel Ferguson had to withdraw from their match due to injury after just four ends, they were very much on top in both at the time.
Respectful as they are of another unbeaten team, however, Munro said she and Carson would continue to give their full attention to their own performances in bidding to maintain their unbeaten run.
“We’ve got more than 24 hours between the game against Australia and our next game against China, so it’s just about making sure that we come out firing after quite a long break and start strong again,” she said.
“It might be a different kind of game, but it’s just about focusing on our own game and trying really hard to get that win and keep building momentum with each game that comes.”
In their only match of the third day of competition they meet China on Thursday at 9pm BST.
