SIX OF THE BEST HELPS SCOTS TO VITAL WIN OVER HUNGARY

Robin Munro and Orrin Carson made the ideal start to their first two game day at the Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles in Edmonton as they ran up a 13-7 scoreline against Hungary.

The Scottish pair had gone into the day knowing they could afford no slip-ups following their defeat to China the previous day and took charge from the outset, winning last stone advantage at the opening end, where they duly scored a two.

The Hungarians responded immediately to level things at the next, but the Scots then registered a maximum six at the third, which gave them full control.

“We started with a great draw shot, which set us up really nicely for the first end, a controlled end where we got a good two on the board,” said Carson.

“We were disappointed to lose a two back immediately, but obviously the big score of six was great and we put the foot down from there to see the game through really well.

“There have been a few sixes this week across games, but we played a really good end, made every shot and they had a few loose ones, which set us up for a nice easy shot to get the six.”

They now face Brazil in their second match of the day, looking to set up what looks set to be a winner-take-all encounter with the USA on the last day of the round-robin competition.

“We know we’ve got to win out from here, so we’ll look to continue this momentum with a win over Brazil this afternoon,” said Carson.

“If we play like that we’ll be in a really good position, so we just have to keep it going.”

Their match with Brazil gets underway at 11pm BST.
