Sport Org, the newly created multi sport performance delivery body established to support the UK’s high performance sporting system, has strengthened its board with the recruitment of two new directors.

Catherine Gilby and Ruth Hall will join the founding board members with immediate effect and will play a key role in shaping the development of the organisation’s drive towards a deeper collaboration across the system to facilitate competitive advantage.

Sport Org has a specialist performance remit specifically designed and governed to deliver world class sport programmes on behalf of National Governing Bodies (NGBs), with a clear focus on performance success and organisational efficiency, while offering collaborative opportunities for learning and insights to be shared across the programmes.

The body has been established as a key element of the System Master Planning work led by UK Sport and while its roots have evolved from what was British Curling, the organisation’s appointment of additional board directors with skill sets and experience specific to Sport Org’s needs, represents a further step in its progressive evolution as a multi sport body.

Catherine Gilby brings a wealth of experience from her role in professional sport as Head of Para Performance at The FA, delivering the strategy for multiple elite Para Football programmes and disciplines across England’s national teams.

Within that role she is responsible for shaping a high performance environment and embedding a culture centred simultaneously on people, international success and performance and continuous improvement.

As a passionate advocate of sport as a successful vehicle for positive change, her work also focuses on increasing accessibility as well as participation and has been instrumental in a unified ‘One Para Football’ approach.

Her background also includes more than a decade within the UK Sport system, having worked for British Para Swimming supporting their world class performance pathway before joining The FA in 2022.

Ruth Hall is an experienced leader with a strong background in board and non-executive roles across the sport, membership and recreation sectors. Throughout her career, she has worked with organisations focused on participation, governance and sector development.

As Chief Executive of the UK Science Park Association (UKSPA), Ruth works with partners and policymakers to support the growth of science parks and places of innovation, strengthening collaboration between academia, industry and government to drive economic growth and investment.

Before joining UKSPA, Ruth was Chief Executive of Archery GB, where she led strategic development focused on modernising governance, strengthening performance pathways and increasing the sport’s visibility. During her tenure, Archery GB secured the successful bid to host the 2028 European Archery Championships, supported Olympic and Paralympic programmes through the Paris 2024 Games and oversaw the move to the new Performance Archery Centre at Lilleshall National Centre.

Earlier in her career, Ruth led Sport England’s National Outdoor Centre and worked with Paddle UK, the British Mountaineering Council and British Cycling to deliver National Governing Body awards programmes. She is recognised for delivering commercial growth, stakeholder engagement and organisational transformation.

Announcing the appointments, Chair of the Sport Org Board Dr Paul Bush, OBE said: "Welcoming Ruth and Catherine to Sport Org ahead of our first board meeting is a significant moment in the evolution of our organisation as we look to support multiple world class sport programmes to the very best standard.

“Sport Org is an exciting new venture in the Olympic and Paralympic system and Catherine and Ruth, along with the other directors and executive team, will help us make strong progress as we look to LA2028, French Alps 2030 and beyond."
