TEAM GB DEFEAT HOSTS TO GO JOINT TOP OF TABLE AT YOUTH OLYMPICS

A hard fought 3-2 victory over hosts Korea in their only game of day three has taken Team GB into a share of first place in the round-robin rankings at the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Quality play from both teams saw three of the first five ends blanked and no more than a single was registered by either team, but Logan Carson, Tia Laurie, Archie Hyslop and Holly Burke were ultimately able to make the advantage of having started with the hammer count when they scored at both the sixth and final ends to edge out their opponents in front of an enthusiastic crowd cheering on the home team in Gangneung.

“It was a really tight game from the start and neither team missed many shots which left very few chances for both of us, but luckily we had the hammer in end eight and came away with the score,” said Carson.

“The atmosphere definitely helped motivate us to perform well.

“It's always a good feeling to beat the home team at such a big event but it’s all about continuing this form.”

The 16-year-old skip consequently reckons that his team has settled into the competition and the Olympic environment after winning three of their first four matches and is now looking forward to a top of the table clash with Italy, who suffered their first defeat of the competition in the fourth round of matches to Denmark, whom Team GB had beaten in their opener.

“I feel like the team is really starting to gel and we're showing everyone what we're really capable of,” said Carson.

“Italy lost their first game to a strong side in Denmark, but we know they’re a good team and we'll have to bring our A game to beat them.

“Life for us in the village has been pretty comfortable so far.

“Everyone is really helpful and Team GB is great at preparing athletes for these moments and conditions.

“It is an experience that is really motivating me to want to wear the Great Britain shirt again in another Olympics.”
