Scotland's Tia Laurie and Ethan Brewster will finalise their preparations for the forthcoming Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles Championships by competing on the same Edmonton ice in the World Open Under-25 MD Championships.
The pair, both Olympic Youth Games gold medallists, earned their place at the World Juniors by claiming the Scottish Junior Mixed Doubles title in March and have been honing their partnership since.
"Since winning the title in March we have been practicing as much as we can to gain as much ice time together as we could before leaving to compete," said Laurie.
"This is the perfect opportunity for us to gain practice playing at the Saville Centre on the ice we will be competing on next week and getting to play against some good opposition from around the world before we start our World Junior Championship next week."
Playing against more experienced opposition in the Under-25 event promises to be challenging, but 20-year-old Laurie and her 19-year-old partner know there will be significant benefits.
"We are both very excited to get started, especially since this is our first time competing in Canada," she said.
"We know the strength of the field at this event will be strong but we will just take it one game at a time and put everything we have learnt together in practice over recent weeks to use."
The event hosted at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta gets underway today (30 April – 3 May) and features 32 teams.
